Helen's recollections of a Sikkim trek with David

Created by Helen 3 years ago

I was one of four people who was led by David and Sherpa Tenzing's son, Dhamey on a trek in Sikkim in late April 1987.  Before we left, David did detailed research on the flora and birds that we were likely to see.  He was an excellent leader, being kind, caring and generous with his knowledge. He had a terrific sense of humour.

David took veterinary medications with him.  These were put to good use, not only for the local's livestock but also for humans.  My sprained knee was successfully treated with udder linament!

His musical talent was put to good use when he wrote the music for the porters' song about Spring.  One evening, I remember sitting around a log fire in a barn at 13,000', singing the song.  This was followed by David's veterinary tales which had us all in fits of laughter.

David was a good friend who will be sorely missed.
